White Oak Akashi 5 Year Old Red Wine Cask
This is a 5 year old Japanese single malt from the White Oak distillery - not one of Japan's most well-known whisky producers outside of the country, but an excellent one nevertheless. This expression was allowed to mature in red wine casks before bottling at 50% ABV, imparting a bounty of dark fruit sweetness to the whisky.
Tasting Notes
Nose
Dark chocolate, caramelised pineapple, strawberry and orange peel.
Palate
Almond, boozy wine richness, a touch of vegetal vanilla.
Finish
Jammy berries and yet more chocolate.
